    Black Ops 7’s matching system is based on a “minimal” level of skill when creating black ops 7 bot lobbies.

    Black Ops 7 does assemble players who are roughly of the same level into lobbies, but it doesn’t do so in all cases. Black Ops 7’s multiplayer lists are set up in such a way that you have to choose SBMM when you pick the right playlist. Otherwise, players will be matched according to other criteria than skill. There have been many Call of Duty games that used skill-based matching systems, but this is always a contentious topic. Here’s the lowdown on how BO7’s SBMM works.

    Black Ops Seven Skill Based Matchmaking

    Black Ops 7 includes two separate matchmaking lists in multiplayer: Standard and Open. Standard has no Skill Based matching.

    Open is “matchmaking that takes skill into consideration to the minimum”. If you don’t like SBMM stick with QuickPlay or Open playlists. Open Playlists, marked in red and/or blue, will tell you exactly how the matchmaking works.

    Keep in mind that these playlists will feature players of all skill-levels. This could mean you get stomped on by a pro team in one round, and you can be the one to do it in the subsequent match. The persistent lobby feature of Open Playlists allows players to stay in the same lobby for their next match. If you feel like you’re being beaten, you may want to go back to matchmaking to find a new group of players.

    Standard playlists include “important considerations” for skill, but currently there is just one: Standard Moshpit. Standard Playlists pits you against other players of roughly the same skill level as you. Expect matches to be highly competitive. Lobbies are often disbanded every time a match is played to ensure that players of the appropriate skill levels are being faced.

    Avalon enemies come in all shapes and sizes, from the scrubbiest Guild soldiers to the toughest of drones. Each enemy has a health bar that is visible. This means human enemies can die before their time. Hallucinations are areas where Cradle concentration is high. These places will have you fighting angry-red, nightmarish versions of the Guild soldiers. They may also include hideous spiders and acid-spitting flies. Spectre One, when combined with stat-boosting upgrades, is essentially JSOC Avengers shooting enemies which feel like black holes. It just feels like a Call of Duty video game campaign.

    The boss fights on several levels are mostly mechanically boring and unnecessary. They feel like Destiny 2 Strike Bosses with their immune phases. Teleporting. and minions. One Avalon level has Spectre One battling an elite Guild sniper. This sniper teleports from rooftop to rooftop and repeats the exact same phrases (“Heads-Up! “, “Gotcha!”) It’s like playing a game of “whack-a -mole” with a Barrett-50 Cal. My cooperative team quickly learned that the easiest path was to spread out across the rooftops and then shoot her in the eye with an insane amount of firepower.

    Endgame, which is the final mission of the campaign, is an ultimate demonstration of this design. It’s basically a PvE extraction mode, but on the entire Avalon map. You have to complete random objectives and challenges. In general, it’s basically the same campaign you played, with some new features like an upgrade system and a more open environment. While it’s okay to shoot NPCs casually early on, the intensity and difficulty in Endgame makes the mode a dull slog.

    Avalon is cut, Guild battles are fought and the squad has to go through a lot of nightmares. This makes Endgame and the campaign more tolerable. Black Ops 7’s experimentation isn’t as successful as it could be. Treyarch is trying to be as bizarre and outlandish as possible with this Call of Duty campaign, but I think it’s a big misfire.
