Stuck on Hall of Fame? How to Reset Your Dynamic Difficulty in MLB The Show 26
Posted by KmGDHMrxbT 2000-08-18 on June 29, 2026 at 6:10 AMWe’ve all been there. You start a new career or franchise in MLB The Show 26, feeling good, crushing standard pitches, and watching your Dynamic Difficulty steadily climb. It feels great at first—a true badge of honor. But then, almost overnight, the game decides you are ready for Hall of Fame or Legend difficulty. Suddenly, you can barely lay eyes on a slider in the dirt, fastballs look like literal teleporting line drives, and your once-promising Road to the Show star is stuck in a massive slump.
The worst part? Dynamic Difficulty can feel incredibly stubborn when it comes to dropping back down. If you find yourself completely outmatched and unable to get a hit, waiting for the game to naturally lower your difficulty can take forever. Frustratingly, Sony San Diego didn’t include a simple “Reset Dynamic Difficulty” button in the menu. But don’t worry—you don’t have to delete your save files or lose your franchise progress to fix this. There is a quick, clean workaround to force a reset right back to Beginner, as well as a few alternatives to get your gameplay experience back to being fun again.
How to Force a Dynamic Difficulty Reset
Since there isn’t a direct reset toggle, the absolute fastest way to clear out your cached dynamic progression data is to create and swap to a completely clean settings profile. Doing this completely wipes the hidden slate of your difficulty tracking without touching your saved seasons, players, or rewards. Here is exactly how to do it:
-
Open Settings: From the main menu of MLB The Show 26, navigate to the top-right corner and select Settings.
-
Manage Your Presets: Once you are inside the main Settings screen, look at the bottom options bar. Press the Square button (if you are on PlayStation) or the X button (if you are on Xbox) to open up the preset management window.
-
Create a New Preset: Select the option to “Create New Preset.” Give it a fresh name so you can recognize it easily, and make sure to select it so it becomes your current active profile.
-
Configure Your Settings: Head into your freshly created gameplay options. Navigate to the gameplay settings and ensure your Hitting and Pitching difficulty settings are set back to Dynamic. Because this is a brand-new profile, the tracking baseline defaults straight back to Beginner.
-
Delete the Old Profile (Optional): To prevent the game from accidentally switching back or reverting to your old, stuck settings, you can safely delete your former high-difficulty profile from the same preset management menu.
Note: Once your new profile is active, simply launch into any offline game mode like Road to the Show or Franchise. You will see your difficulty progression bar starting fresh right from the Beginner level, letting you build your progress back up at a more reasonable pace.
Alternative Method: Manual Regression
If you don’t want to completely wipe the slate clean and start all the way back at Beginner, you can choose to nudge the system downward manually. If you are stuck on Hall of Fame but feel like All-Star is your sweet spot, you can intentionally trigger a quick difficulty drop.
-
The Strategy: Fire up an offline Exhibition game with your active settings profile and ensure Dynamic Difficulty is turned on.
-
The Execution: Once the game starts, intentionally play poorly. When you are at the plate, swing wildly and strike out frequently. When you are on the mound, toss easy pitches right down the middle and let the AI score runs quickly. It only takes a short period of terrible performance to force the game’s internal slider to drop back down from Hall of Fame to All-Star or Veteran.
Tired of the Sliders? Turn Off Dynamic Difficulty Completely
Let’s be honest: while Dynamic Difficulty sounds amazing on paper, the constant shifting can ruin the rhythm of a long season. If you are tired of the rubber-banding experience where the game gets too hard, drops down, and immediately spikes back up, your best bet is to lock it in manually.
To freeze your experience at a fixed level, head over to Settings > User Settings, then move to the Gameplay section (covering Hitting and Pitching). Toggle the option away from Dynamic and explicitly lock it onto a permanent difficulty level—like All-Star or Veteran—that matches your actual skill level. This ensures a consistent, predictable challenge every single time you step up to the plate.
